Author POV¡
The room was quiet and calm. The morning light came through the window and brightened the room. The room was so neat and clean that it didn't feel like someone had slept here at night at all.
The room door opened, and a woman walked inside, wiping sweat from her neck with a mini towel. She was wearing a gym suit, which made it clear that she had woken up way before the sun even rose.
She walked straight to the closet. It was her walk-in closet. She chose a navy suit with white embroidery on the neckline and sleeves of the suit, with matching pajamas. She headed towards the bathroom for a shower.
After a while, when she came out wrapped in that beautiful navy suit, drying her hair with a towel, she just looked like a fairy. Her blue eyes on her milky skin just made her even more attractive.
She stood in front of the mirror and applied sunscreen on her face, then her neck and hands as well. She combed her damp hair. She didn't use a hairdryer, as she thought it harmed the hair through its heat.
She wrapped a watch around her left wrist. She took her bag and started taking the necessary things and putting them inside her bag, like... a bun holder, phone, comb, rubber band, lipstick, etc.
She came downstairs with her bag, wearing normal slippers. She sat at the dining table along with her family. Her mother smiled at her and asked, "Rashu, pass me the salad," she said, and Rashbi passed the salad like an obedient child.
Rashbi's POV¡
I served myself poha and salad. I started eating my breakfast when I saw my elder brother come downstairs and sit beside me. "Good morning, bhai," I said with a smile.
While my brother just nodded and said, "Morning," though I didn't mind. My brother might be a little cold-shouldered, I mean, a lot cold-hearted, but I know he loves me.
He served himself poha with salad and started eating as well. I was focused on my food. Yeah, our family is always quiet everywhere.
Mom is busy with her patients, as she is a cardiologist, Dad is busy with his business, and Bhai as well. And me... from childhood, I have always done my things on my own. It's not like my family never supported me, but it felt like talking too much makes me feel out of the family.
So yeah, I became sensitive in my way of becoming strong. Bhai has anger issues, but at least he controls that around me. I was lost in my thoughts when my dad spoke.
"Ravi, I'm going for a business trip for three days," he said to my mom in a soft voice and with warmth. Then he looked at my brother and spoke again. "Rishabh, you can handle the matter here, right?" He said in a normal tone.
"Yeah, Dad, you can rely on me for that," Bhai said while eating.
I stood up as I finished my breakfast. "I must leave. Bye, Mom, Dad, and Bhai," I bid them, and they did the same as well.
I came outside and walked towards my car. I settled into the driver's seat and started the engine. The car started running on the road as I drove towards the hospital.
The hospital is my mother's. She built this hospital on her own without my father's help because she wanted to do something on her own, and at first, I didn't like the idea of working at my own mother's hospital, but now it doesn't feel that bad.
My mother is the chairman of the hospital, and Dr. Kundra is the CEO of the hospital. My mother really believes in experience and hard work. In my twenty-seven years of life, I have never seen my mother being basis to her favourite people. Because she believes it will come to you if you are capable enough.
So yeah, from what I learnt from my mom and dad, honesty is the best policy to get your success.
I park the car in the hospital parking lot. I come out of the car and lock the door, then walk towards the hospital's main entrance. I walk towards the reception and register my name as per the hospital protocol.
I head to the lift and get inside, then press the sixth floor, which is the neurologist section. On the sixth floor, it's for those patients who have brain issues. We have divided floors for different types of patients and doctors.
The lift door opens, and I come out of it, walking down to my cabin. As a senior doctor, I have my own cabin. I wear my doctor coat and sit on my leather chair, then press the bell kept on my desk, which confirms my arrival to the interns under my guidance.
Within a few minutes, six interns come inside my cabin and start giving me their reports on the patients.
The first one was Maya, who just joined last week. "Ma'am, I was checking the ward number 209 patient, and her condition didn't seem good at all... What I meant to say is that... her symptoms are for a brain tumor..." I checked the report, and it was quite impressive. At such a short time, she has shown great improvement.
"Yeah, you are right, Maya. This seems like a brain tumor, but there is a good sign that it's still small. We need to do surgery before it gets bigger. As she already has diabetes... it will be a bit risky. Call her family and fix an appointment with me," I said calmly.
Maya nodded and took the file back.
The next one was Yeashveer, but as his name felt like too long, I called him just Veer. He has completed almost ten months of his internship already. Just a two months more then he will be a certified neurologist himself "Ma'am, here is the report you wanted. I have checked each blood sample myself, and you were right. He has blood cancer. I'll ask the cancer doctors to study on it." I checked the report and signed at the end of the document.
This signature confirms that I'm handing my patient to another doctor who can treat them better. "As it's cancer, we neurologists can't help him with that. So give this file to Dr. Meera," I said, as Dr. Meera was very much capable of dealing with cancer patients.
Then, one after another, everyone submitted their reports to me, and I checked them and suggested my opinion. I leaned against my leather chair as I spoke. "All of you are doing very well. And Maya, I'm very impressed by your work. You are doing great being a new intern. Keep going, and you will become a better neurologist than me," I said with a smile. I like to appreciate those who really work hard.
I could see Maya giving a smirk to Yeashveer, and Yeashveer scoffed at her. I shook my head. They both argue like a dog and cat, always pulling each other's leg. I can understand Maya is immature, but Yeashveer...
"Quit it, Maya and Yeashveer. Don't get started again." I tried to sound strict but failed.
They stood straight, and Maya spoke. "But, ma'am, we didn't do anything." I smiled at her puppy eyes.
"Maya, I know you both didn't do anything just yet. I know how that little glare will end up with an argument," I said, and everyone laughed.
"Okay, doctors, that's it for today. Now go to your respective tasks I just gave you." They all left the cabin. But I could see how Maya elbowed Yeashveer, then ran out, and Yeashveer chased after her.
I shook my head. "These two will never be able to stop teasing each other." I smiled to myself.
I closed my eyes, and the flashback appeared in front of my eyes.
Three months ago.....
I can't forget that night....
