Rashbi's POV¡
I followed the nurse and walked inside a ward. There lay a man; he was badly injured in his head.
It looked like someone had hit him with an iron rod or something. I quickly rushed towards him and checked his pulse.
"Prepare the OT immediately! We have to do surgery," I said, and the nurses rushed outside.
I tied a bandage around his head to stop the blood flow.
"Who came with him?" I asked the other nurse.
"Dr. Chauhan, the man who came with him is outside."
I nodded and walked outside the ward, as I needed a few things to talk about.
I came out and saw a tall figure standing there with a cigarette in his hand. I narrowed my eyes and walked towards him.
I tapped his shoulder as his back was facing me. "Excuse me, sir, you can't smoke here," I said politely, and the guy turned around.
His grey eyes widened in surprise. I stared at him blankly.
"Y... you?" He asked me like he didn't expect me to be here.
"Yes, I'm here. What did you expect a doctor to be? Now, would you stop smoking?" I asked, but he was just staring at me like a rock.
I snapped my fingers in front of his face. "Hey! Are you there?" I asked patiently.
"Uh-huh, yeah..." He threw the cigarette in the dustbin and stood straight with a smirk.
I didn't pay much attention and asked the question I came for.
"Are you that injured guy's family or something?" I asked him.
"No. Actually, he got hit by my car," he said casually, like it didn't matter.
"What?!" I was shocked. I gritted my teeth.
I never lose my patience, but this guy... how can he be so out of stress after almost taking someone's life?
"You are that reckless driver? You should have known that in India, we have speed limits. When you don't know how to drive, then why become a driver? You don't even deserve to be called a human being! That guy is fighting for his life because of you, and you are smoking? Like it's nothing?" I almost shouted at him.
I paused as I was shocked myself.
I... I really shouted? I raised my voice at some stranger?
Maybe because he was so indifferent about the crime he had just committed.
Just as I was about to say anything more, the nurse came and said, "OT is ready."
I nodded and walked towards the operation theatre.
I looked at that man over my shoulder. He was still smirking.
I scoffed and looked at the nurse. "Call the police and make sure they arrest that man."
Saying that, I walked inside the operation theatre.
---
The operation theatre was already prepared. The nurses had arranged everything, and the patient was ready.
I took one last look at the reports before beginning the surgery.
"Let's begin," I said.
The team immediately got to work.
The surgery was difficult because of the severity of the injury, but everyone stayed focused. I carefully worked to control the bleeding and treat the damage caused by the injury.
"Vitals?" I asked.
"Stable, ma'am."
I nodded and continued.
"Keep monitoring him. We can't take any risks."
The team followed my instructions. After several tense hours, we finally reached the end of the procedure.
I checked everything one last time before stepping back.
"The surgery is successful," I said.
The nurses visibly relaxed.
"Move him to the ICU. Keep monitoring his condition closely."
I stepped away from the operating table, exhausted but relieved.
---
I came out and walked towards the washroom. I removed my gloves and cap, threw them inside the dustbin, and then washed my hands at the basin.
I splashed water on my face when I saw the nurse walking this way. It was the same nurse I had asked to call the police for that creep.
"Nurse," I called her out, and she walked towards me.
"Yes?" She asked me politely.
"Did you call the police? And where is that guy?" I asked her.
"Actually, Dr. Chauhan, the police arrested him," she said, and I nodded, gesturing for her to leave.
So finally, he was in his right place.
I'm damn sure that injury was not from some car hit. The injury was so intense; it seemed like someone had hit him intentionally.
I walked down to my cabin and sat on my chair.
Just then, my phone rang. I picked up.
"Hello, Mom," I said in a normal tone.
"Rashu, when are you coming home, beta?" She asked me, and I looked at the clock.
"Mom, it's just ten a.m... Mom, there is too much time left," I said, and she hummed.
"Okay, then take a leave today. You don't need to take leave anyway. Just inform Dr. Kundra. I know he will give you leave. After all, you never take one," she said, which made sense. He wouldn't say no to me.
"Why? Is there anything important today that I don't know?" I asked at her urgent tone.
"Yeah... of course. Today is Advrik's birthday," she said with happiness.
Oh, I remember Advrik bhai... He is Amaan's elder brother. But he doesn't live in India.
"Yeah, Mom... I remember that... but he doesn't live here, so why is that special?" I asked a logical question.
"No, he is in India. He came last night. Avanti just informed me. They are throwing a grand party, so we must go," she said, and I hummed.
"When is the party?" I asked her.
"At evening... 7 p.m.," she said, and I sighed.
"Mom, I have so much time before that. You want me to take leave? It's ten now. Till seven, I have nine hours left. So I'll come home at 6 p.m.," I said.
I could feel her scoff.
"Shut up, Rashu. You and your brother are both the same. Mention not. Me and your dad are going to Singhania Mansion. Come on time, understood? Don't be late."
Saying that, she hung up.
I shook my head. God, my mother becomes childish sometimes. A rare moment for me.
I smiled.
AFTER EIGHT HOURS
I looked at the clock. It was six p.m. I had just come from an operation, and I was so exhausted. I sat on my chair.
I didn't mean to sleep, but I drifted into slumber.
I stirred at the knock on my door. I opened my eyes and looked up.
"Come in."
The door opened, and Dr. Kundra walked in.
Dr. Kundra was a fit and healthy man, around his late thirties.
"You didn't go home yet? Dr. Chauhan just called me and asked me if you left the hospital or not. You are not picking up her calls. She is tensed."
I looked at the clock.
God, it was 8 p.m.
I picked up my phone and saw everyone's missed calls.
Shit.
"Actually... Sir, I always keep my phone on silent before going into an operation. I just forgot... I'm sorry," I apologized.
"No need to apologize. I thought you left an hour ago, but you are still here. Go home before Dr. Chauhan calls again," he said, and I nodded.
I picked up my bag and put my things in it.
Then I walked out of the cabin.
I headed to the lift and got into it. I pressed the ground floor button.
The lift moved down.
I watched my wristwatch continually.
I pulled out my phone and sent a voice note to Mom.
The lift door opened. I came out and walked out of the hospital.
I sat inside my car and drove towards Chauhan Mansion.
After several minutes of driving, I pulled the car outside Chauhan Mansion. The guards opened the iron gate, and I drove inside.
I came out of the car and gave the keys to the guards.
"Park the car."
I walked inside the mansion. The maids opened the door.
"Does Bhai come home?" I asked as I moved towards the stairs.
The maid nodded.
That meant he was also at the party.
I walked inside my room and entered my closet. I chose a white dress. Of course, my favourite colour.
I walked inside my bathroom and took a quick shower. Then I wore the dress, dried my hair with a towel, and sat under the fan.
I did a little makeup. Thankfully, I was looking pretty.
I lined my lips with lip liner and applied nude lip gloss. It looked great on me.
I combed my hair, which was still damp, but what could I do?
I wore earrings and a diamond chain, then my heels. I took my purse, put my phone, lip gloss, and lip liner inside it, then walked outside my room.
I came downstairs and headed towards the front door.
I sat in my car and headed towards Singhania Mansion.
My phone rang. Maan was calling. I connected it to the car and picked up.
"Yes, Maan?" I asked.
"Where are you, Rashu?" He asked.
"Just five minutes. I'll be there. Don't worry. I know I'm late... sorry," I said hurriedly.
"Yeah, indeed you are. And it's the first time you are late because you were always so punctual," he said, and I hummed.
"Yeah... one more surprising thing happened today..." I said, remembering the morning incident.
"What?" This time, it was a girl's voice.
"Anshi, you are on time?" I asked in shock.
"No, I just came right now," she said, and I chuckled.
"Leave it... tell me what surprising thing happened to you?" She asked curiously.
"Actually... I shouted at a stranger... I mean, I scolded him... in a stern voice," I said.
"WHAT?!" A few more voices were added this time.
So the call was on speaker.
"You did what? Are you okay?" Amaan asked me.
I hummed.
I pulled up at the Singhania residence car park and came out.
"Okay, I'm here, guys."
Saying that, I hung up.
As soon as I walked inside, I was shocked.
Everyone was wearing black except me.
Wait... black was the dress code?...
Before I could overthink, I felt two arms around my waist, and the next moment, I was twirled in the air.
I laughed, and then I turned around as I was placed back on the ground.
"Anshika..." I gasped, and she smirked.
"I missed you," she said and kissed my cheek. I smiled.
"Yeah, I missed you too. You came yesterday?" I asked her, as she lives in Russia for her studies.
"No. Today morning. And see, we are here looking like divas," she said, and I chuckled.
"By the way... everyone is wearing black..." I said, and she sensed what I was implying.
"Yeah. Advrik bhai said everyone should wear black so he can be the only one wearing white," she said, and my smile wiped off.
"What? I ruined his day..." I said, already feeling guilty.
The others also joined us.
Amaan, Bhai, Ansh Bhai, Nishant Bhai, and Anannya.
Everyone was looking at me like a rock, then looking at each other.
"I know... I ruined Advrik bhai's day..." I said sadly.
But Rishabh Bhai, being Rishabh Bhai, said, "You did a great job, princess."
He said it, and I looked at him.
"But—" I tried to explain myself, but Bhai cut me off.
"Princess, don't worry... white suits you. And I'll see who says anything to you," he said like a protective brother—no, an overprotective brother.
"Shant gadha dhari bheem shant," Ansh Bhai said in his always playful tone, just to receive a glare from Bhai.
I like their bond.
Ansh Bhai, Nishant Bhai, Advrik Bhai, and my brother were all childhood best friends. I had seen them stick together since my childhood. Although, when I was eleven years old, Advrik Bhai left the country.
"So... where is Advrik Bhai? I want to wish him and say sorry," I said, and Anannya pointed towards a guy who was wearing a white suit.
His back was towards me, so I couldn't see his face.
I turned back to my group.
"Bhaiya!" Anannya shouted, taking everyone's attention towards us.
God, this girl...
I didn't look back because I couldn't face him. As I was wearing white, I needed to prepare a sorry speech first.
I was about to turn around, but before I could, I felt a pair of strong arms around my waist.
My eyes widened. It was not Anshika or Amaan because they were in front of me.
I gritted my teeth and turned around, then slapped the guy in front of me.
It was the guy from my hospital.
He should be in... jail... shouldn't he?
And why was he wearing a white suit?
